We have an eight month male who was and has maintained until the last month a bay black. Within the last month we have observed an increasing change to gray around his entire neck to his shoulders. At first we though it may have been ash from a clearing fire, but the gray did not rub off or wash off when watering his belly. We subsequently have noticed gray now in his hips and back.

Question: Could this gray a result of the powerful Texas sun or can it be that he is not a Bay Black and is in some kind of fleece transition to a mixed gray?

Any comments would be appreciated..

Hi,

If your alpaca is not already added to the database could you do so please? It would be much easier to discuss this issue from pictures.

Thanks,

Neil
